About ChickPea & Herb
Hi, I’m Lauren. I’m a twenty something artist, recipe developer, and food photographer living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with my musician husband and three freeloading kitties. I’m a speech language pathologist by trade, but over the years have found that trying to put my creativity on the back burner was certainly more of a challenge than the beautifully diverse and winding journey I’m on now: working in a special needs school as a speech therapist part time while pursuing an emerging career blending vegan cooking, sustainability, art, gardening and floral design. Check out my FAQ to see how these intertwine and what services I offer.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a creator. I’ve drawn and painted, designed overflowing English gardens even in my tiniest of college apartment yards, tirelessly helped my grandma Trudy bake endless sweets for holidays, lovingly built lopsided bird houses with my grandfather as a small child, and crafted alluring floral arrangements for brides and performers since working in a small flower shop in high school. I always take the unconventional route because following a path less taken has a sense of possibility and intrigue I can’t overlook. I designed my own bouquets and centerpieces for my wedding and preserved the dried bouquet as art that’s hanging in my home today, painted murals for businesses and on all of the walls in my home when a nice ‘greige’ would have done the trick, and insisted on making every last treat for all of my friends’ showers despite knowing a bakery would have saved me the time and hassle. I’m a doer and a maker, and I’ve found my peace in this unpredictable rhythm of creating and seeing where the wind takes me.
It may seem that the realms of art, food, flowers, and pottery don’t necessarily go together, but as a true lover all four, I’ve found it my personal mission to make sure that they do, even if I have to chip away at the mystery inch by inch until I figure out exactly how. It’s with love that I bring you this blog and all of my creations buried within it. Please, kick your feet up, stay a while, and get to know me
